Mini-Implants
Mini implants are tiny 2 – 2.4 mm titanium posts. These implants were originally designed to aid your dentist in making temporary prosthetics such as temporary bridges or dentures.
Today their use has been approved by the FDA for support of a complete lower denture. Specifically, four implants are placed in the chin area. They are relatively easy to insert and can be immediately used; however, the length of time they last is unpredictable.
We have used several types of mini implants in our patient population to help support bridges and dentures. They have always proved to be temporary in nature. Many factors enter into a decision to use mini implants: the patient’s age, general health, available space in the jaw, and the health and density of the bone. Every patient case is unique and Dr. Cameron will explore your potential treatment options with you.
